Although my corner of South Africa has become a business hub of sorts, much of our way of life has stayed true to our farming roots. Just about any road out of the main city takes you into  the most beautiful, rustic settings, most of which is farm land. On an autumn morning in April, my partner and I took a drive out to the old town of Lydenburg. Some of my father’s family were originally from this area, but you don’t need local roots to be in awe of this picturesque part of the high grounds of Mpumalanga. As we descended Long Tom Pass, a road that twists and turns high up in the mountains, we came upon this dry landscape dotted with cows. It reminded me of some scene out of an old movie, and whenever I look at this shot, I am taken back to that beautiful day.
