Afternoon walks in winter up in the small village of Kaapsehoop are the stuff that dreams are made of, if you are the more outdoorsy type. On this particular afternoon, I was feeling a bit cabin feverish, so we took a drive up the mountain to take a long overdue walk along the escarpment to see the sights and to get some cold air. The light in July is simply magnificent. By about 3 pm, the sun begins her slow descent and everything is awash in a golden glow. We were making our way back down the hiking path, and the village lay nestled between rocks and hidden away from the rest of the world, something that suits this folklorish place. Kaapsehoop will always feel like a world away from our own, and it is a lovely place to spend an afternoon reconnecting with nature and oneself.
